About: The Show
South Africa’s biggest reality competition, Idols, is back! For over a decade, the South African version of Idols has been one of one of the country’s biggest shows, always full of spice, scandal and above all, super singing. The show's forte is forging superstars from raw talent and it has consistently launched the boys and girls next door to the top of the pop charts.

From Season I’s Heinz Winckler, Brandon October, Melanie Lowe and David Fourie to Season V’s Jason Hartman; Season VI's Elvis Blue and Lloyd Cele (who both won SAMAs in 2012) - as well as runner-ups like Pixie Bennet and Sindi Nene - and Season VII's Dave van Vuuren, many previous Idols contenders are carving out lucrative careers for themselves.

But the one staple in the Idols arsenal that never seems to relent is the show’s knack for getting people talking. From Randall’s cruel putdowns to Gareth's well-worded wit to Unathi's tears (of joy and laughter!), Idols is always the most watercooler chat-worthy spectacle on television.

Idols VIII arrives with plenty of extra flavour on Sunday 3 June (at 17:30) and concludes with the crowning of the land's most melodic new crooner on Tuesday 2 October. Idols VII broadcasts on M-Net (DStv 101), M-Net HD (DStv 170) and Mzansi Magic (DStv 107).
