Obakeng Ramaboa seemed to have had the upper hand when he Auditioned for Idols – he is already a back-up singer for Zahara.
He describes himself as an “upcoming hustling musician” who pretty much does anything related to music. When he heard that Zahara, who scooped up seven SAMAs recently, was looking for back-up singers, he went for the audition. “I thought I would give it a shot.”
Obakeng describes songbird Zahara as a very real person, despite her achievement. Working with her, he says, is a learning experience everyday.
Zahara also has high praise for him: “Obakeng is a great musician.” When she heard he was pursuing Idols, she was both amazed and elated for him.
In front of the Judges he sang: “As Long as You Love Me” by the Backstreet Boys. Gareth chuckled at it choice and said: “You got a good voice. I did not expect Backstreet Boys… it is always nice when you’re surprised.”
