Artist Focus: Toya Delazy
Tue, 25 Sep 2012 13:19
South Africa’s latest superstar, Toya Delazy was on hand this past Sunday to mentor the Top 3.
Since signing with Sony Music Africa last year, this 23-year old Zululand born singer has been making waves with her debut album, Due Drop.
Last week she felt honoured to have been selected as one of the mentors for the show.
“I really enjoyed being part of the final push because the show is coming to an end. I hope I gave them encouragement,” she says.
Watch this video as she speaks about the Top 3 and their strengths and weaknesses:
Rolling Stone Magazine describes Delazy as “sassy and classy enough to compete globally”. So we asked her about how easy it is for a local artist to break into the international music scene.
“It needs a lot of dedication you really have to go around if you want to crack abroad,” she says.
But it would seem she has her sights set on taking her music further into the African continent. She says: “Africa is opening up and I’m pretty excited to get in there and work it.”
To find out what she is up to now and her upcoming deluxe album, watch this:
