Each week a leading local musician mentors the Contestants, getting them ready for their big performance that Sunday. Last week saw Freshlyground lead singer, Zolani Mahola take the Idols hopefuls under her wing to prepare them for the Top 5 Performance Show.
“Working with Zolani is quite beautiful because I have always loved the band Freshlyground and obviously her voice because she is the one we remember most of the time,” said Monde.
Simphiwe also enjoyed working with Zolani saying: “She gave very nice advice and she’s a fun person, it’s always nice to work with someone who is fun. Having her as a mentor was such an honour.”
Last Sunday Zolani said Tshidi was “definitely one of my favourites on the show” and Khaya had “one of the best voices”.
“Ms Zolani is the most adorable thing in the room. She did say I sound amazing so that’s good, I’m excited about that,” said Tshidi.
And Khaya said: “I have seen Freshlground live on a number of occasions and she’s an amazing performer and getting her input on our song choices this week was incredible.”
Melissa found it easy to connect with her mentor as they are both from the Eastern Cape, “and that’s where all the talent comes from,” Melissa adds.
“She’s very down to earth and I just love her music,” said Melissa.
