Review: Episode 17
This week the world-renowned Drakensberg Boys Choir partnered up with the Contestants to bring a unique twist to the Top 7 Spectacular at the Mosaïek Teatro.

Multiple award-winning and platinum-selling songstress, Lira shared her expert advice as she mentored each Contestant.

From the opening Group Performance of “We Are Young” by FUN, it was clear that the Drakensberg boys were not only cute but also talented enough to meet up to the challenge of backing seven of South Africa’s best singers.

“I suggested to the director that they use that song and he is a genius,” said an impressed Gareth.

Simphiwe kicked off the show with an R. Kelly number “Sign Of A Victory” which Lira thoroughly enjoyed.

Tshidi continued to impress the Judges with her performance of “As” by George Michael and Mary J Blige this week.

Monde was up next with “Purple Rain” by Prince, which he found to be a difficult song to work on.

After a few rocky weeks, Dominic was up next to sing for public votes. He performed Coldplay’s “Paradise” but both Randall and Gareth are convinced that he will still be in the bottom 3 again.

Shekhinah blew the audience and Judges away with her rendition of “I Try” by Macy Gray earning her a rare standing ovation from Randall.

Khaya was in top form with his performance of R. Kelly’s “I Am The World’s Greatest”.

Melissa closed the show off with the Aretha Franklin and Annie Lennox hit from the 80s, “Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves” but Gareth is worried that she might be in the bottom 3 at Tuesday’s Live Results Show.

When asked what she thought of the show, Lira said: “I saw them just shine in such an amazing way so I’ve really been inspired and turned into a fan of many of them.”
